Home / Safe Contact Recommendations

EQUIPMENT

  • Helmet, Tackle Bar™ shoulder pads, TackleBar™ harness, mouth guard. Padded pants/girdle are optional.

SPECIAL TEAMS

  • No kick-offs: ball is placed on 30 yard line.
  • Punts: no rush, ball placed where caught or where the ball comes to rest.

EXCESSIVE CONTACT PENALTIES (PERSONAL FOUL) CAN BE CALLED FOR FAILURE TO CONTROL CONTACT AND COMPLY WITH THE SAFE CONTACT RULES OUTLINED AS FOLLOWS:

DEFENSE

  • Downing the Ball Carrier:
    • No tackling or throwing players to the ground.
    • No helmet initiated contact.
    • Players may never leave their feet to launch or dive into another player.
  • Wrap and Rip™ technique is recommended. Defender breaks down, wraps ball carrier and rips TackleBar — simulates latest recommended shoulder tackling technique.
  • Defense may initiate contact, wrap, and/or grab the ball carrier anywhere between the thighs and shoulders while attempting to remove a TackleBar™.
  • It is not a penalty if the ball carrier inadvertently goes to the ground during this action. However, contact that deliberately takes the ball carrier to the ground with force may be penalized.

OFFENSE

  • No weight restriction for RB/QB.
  • No helmet initiated contact.
  • Players may never leave their feet to launch or dive into another player.
  • No blocking below the waist.
  • Down field and open field blocking may only be initiated with hands or forearms to the upper body of the opponent between waist and shoulders (No lowering shoulder to deliver a hit). This includes pulling lineman.

WARNING: THESE RULE RECOMMENDATIONS DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT PLAYERS WILL BE PROTECTED FROM MINOR, DISABLING, SERIOUS, OR PERMANENT INJURY THAT CAN OCCUR WHILE PLAYING FOOTBALL.
